Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice 2019
IMDb 8.1/10 min
Focusing largely on her career including being the first bona fide female rock star, the life of Linda Ronstadt is presented. That path from her upbringing outside of Tucson, Arizona with European and Mexican heritage to that stardom having moved to Los Angeles to pursue that singing career is shown, with commentary not only from her own lips, but that of many of her contemporaries who were also emerging at the same time. Her own sensibilities as a woman in a profession dominated by men affected not only the way she acted within that environment, but also impacted the face of rock music especially as it related to women. Her move out of rock music to other genres in getting back to other types of music with which she grew up is also presented, she being told told time and time again that such moves would ruin her career, but the contrary eventually happening with she and the music with each move being met with critical acclaim and popular appeal. These genres included light operetta in the form of Gilbert and Sullivan (most specifically The Pirates of Penzanze), pop standards in collaboration with Nelson Riddle, a purely country collaboration with old friend Emmylou Harris and new friend Dolly Parton, a pop music collaboration with Aaron Neville, and a recording of traditional Spanish-language Mexican folk songs. Not being a songwriter but owning whatever song she decided to sing, and the reason for her retirement in 2009, when she gave her last concert, are also discussed. And two of her higher profile romantic relationships, to fellow musician JD Souther and then California Governor Jerry Brown, are also touched upon. Written by Huggo

IMDb 5.8/10 min
Like most children of famous people, Bobbi Kristina Brown grew up in the spotlight - very often on stage and walking the red carpet with her parents Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. To most, she was simply 'Whitney's and Bobby's daughter,' the little girl behind the scenes with no identity beyond the image attached to her by the media and the public. But the untold story of Bobbi Kristina Brown is one of adventure, dreams, conflict, perseverance, faith, friendship, and love - a love between mother and daughter. A love often interrupted by success, emotional upheaval and drug addiction but an unshakable, incomparable, unwavering love nonetheless. Our story begins immediately after Whitney's (played by Demetria McKinney) death and takes us into Krissi's struggle to come to terms with her mother's death and her own life. Even as she finds herself in an increasingly volatile relationship with Nick Gordon (played by Nadji Jeter), the young man with whom she grew up and ultimately fell in love with. Even as she endures the pain of a strained relationship with her father (played by Hassan Johnson) and aunt Patricia Houston (played by Vivica A. Fox). Even as she wages her own war with addiction and physical abuse. For the first time, Krissi will be revealed in a way the world has never seen and may never forget - through the eyes of her best friends and those who knew her well. Bobbi Kristina introduces us to the girl we thought we knew and the woman we never got to see. Written by Krystal Franklin

FOREMAN is the definitive feature documentary on legendary boxer and pitchman George Foreman. Framed around his improbable comeback, it begins with his journey from "the Bloody Fifth" in Houston, one of the most violent and dangerous neighborhoods in America, to Olympic gold and the heavyweight championship. But a shocking defeat in "the Rumble in the Jungle" at the hands of Muhammad Ali will change his life forever. Just 28 years old, George Foreman lays down his gloves, retires from boxing, and becomes a preacher on the streets of Houston. For the next ten years, he doesn't so much as ball his fists, let alone step in the ring - So a decade later, when George, now a minister, pushing 40, and tipping the scales at over 300 pounds, announces that he is not only returning to boxing but will once again become heavyweight champion of the world, he is met with laughter. Thus begins the most unlikely comeback in the history of professional sports, an epic journey that results in George, at 45, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history. Equally unlikely and remarkable is George's personal transformation from reviled villain to national treasure -- an arc that culminates with the most successful celebrity marketing endorsement of all time. FOREMAN is the unbelievable story of the man behind the grill, an almost-Biblical tale of redemption, resurrection, and one man's impossible dream.
